(Not necessarily food I’d always eat: I’m a Vegetarian, after all – but I thought of food I’d recommend.)

10. Weckewerk

I probably should not start describing this meal by mentioning that its name means in the local Kassel dialect as much as thrown away bread rolls…Well, it used to be a poor man’s meal, but nowadays it is made from high quality ingredients. Those can be as follows: Pork rind, ground meat, meat broth, cooked meet, offal, bread rolls, onions, salt, pepper and marjoram. The ingredients are mixed and filled in a pig’s intestine. Usually it’s served pan fried in slices – with peeled boiled potatoes, pickled gherkins, beetroot or green sauce (see below for green sauce). According to rumours this is the closest recipe to the Scottish Haggis.

9. Curry sausage (Currywurst)

A sliced pork sausage with a curry sauce (usually a curry-ketchup blend) served with french fries (German like thier fries with ketchup-mayonnaise mix) and bread roll. A popular fast food in metropolitan areas.

8. Grey Bread and Black Bread (Graubrot und Schwarzbrot)

Let’s face it, you might call them Krauts or Potatoes, but Germans are actually bread-eating world champions. There are a few thousand different kinds of bread in Germany and it’s considered an important part of almost every meal. Now, aside of the wheat bread you surely know (Weißbrot – White bread in German), those funny bakeries there also produce Gray bread (Graubrot) and Black bread (Schwarzbrot). While grey bread is a mix of wheat and rye, black bread is any bread with more than 90 % rye. Among the black breads especially Pumpernickel should be mentioned, which is steamed and not baked, giving it a sweet-like taste.

7. Muzzle Bags (Maultaschen)

The Swabian Germans say about themselves that they’d be clumpy imitate versions if Italians, but don’t let yourself be fooled by that statement. The Swabian version of ravioli, so to say, might differ from the original Italian recipe – but is a delicatess of its own. They are filled with minced meat or spinach and either way served fried, in vegetable soup or dressed with butter.

6. Finger noodles (Schupfnudeln)

Another Swabian delicious meal, this time it’s their version of the Italian gnocchi. Usually made from rye flour and eggs.

5. Spaetzle noodles (Spätzle)

To complete the tricolore of Swabian pasta: Their egg noodles made from basically just eggs, flour and salt. The recipe is as easy and quickly prepared. I recommend speatzle noodles with a nice cheese-cream sauce and fried onion slices/rings.

4. Green Sauce (Grüne Soße/Gree Soß)

The old recipe is originally from the Near East and Roman legionaries brought it to South and Middle Europe. The recipes vary greatly, so I’ll mostly pay attention to the Kassel variant: Seven herbs (usually borage, parsley, pimpernel, anthriscus, sorrel, dill and chives; alternately shallot, lemon balm, garden cress and tarragon), sour cream, yogurt, mustard, pepper and milk make it a refreshing sauce, that goes good with peeled boiled potatoes and hard-boiled eggs.

3. Pretzels (Bretzeln)

I assume the pretzel as it is, is world wide known, so I don’t think I need to describe the knot-shaped and slight salty bakery-good much more. Recommendation: Swabian pretzels. (I prefer them over Bavarian ones.)

2. Spelt and Unripe Spelt (Dinkel und Grünkern)

A European kid of wheat that was popular till the Middle Ages in Middle Europe and was almost forgotten until the second half of the 20th century, when organic farming re-discovered it as a wheat that requires less fertilizers. Spelt is often used in health oriented, vegetarian or vegan kitchens. The variety of its use its great, from bread to salads to veggie burgers. (Grünkern is unripe spelt, but just as Dinkel used for food.)

1. Woodruff (Waldmeister)

The actual herbal planet, native to Europe and neighbouring parts of Asia and Africa will not be discussed much here, since it is no longers used in industrial manfuactured food since 1981. The artificial woodruff-flavour however is widely used in drinks (soda, wine, beer, tea) and food (jelly, jam and ice cream mostly). It is, next to green apple, the traditional “green flavour” (as strawberry is a red flavour, lemon is yellow, orange is orange, etc…). Woodruff flavour is sweet, but not intense (unless you take woodruff syrup) and refreshing.

Honourable mentioning: Scho-Ka-Kola

A German chocolate, also known as sport chocolate and flyer chocolate (WWII airforce term) made from dark chocolate, cafeine from cocoa and roasted coffee and additional cola nuts.

Munat, sometimes referred to as Tuataran are a reptilian humanoid species, originating from the planet Cemuf Ritumav

Homeworld: Cemuf Ritumav
Physical Type: Reptilian humanoid
Average Height: 4′
Average Weight: 65 lb
Average Lifespan: 100 years
Language: no own language known; they mainly speak Seena
Internal Temperature: 17.5°C
Atmospheric Requirements: nitrogen/oxygen
Preferred Atmospheric Pressure: 0.98 atm

Contents
* 1 Appearance
* 2 Culture and Behaviour
* 3 Abilities
* 4 9th Millennium

Appearance
Munat are an artificial created species, basing on the reptilian species known as Seena G’fifarad, with additional genome and looks of the feline-like acting, non sentient Munatey Ba species.
By point of view of their creators, Munat fit in the cultural niche Humans would describe as cat-people.
Their whole body is covered my a soft scale-skin, varying from a dark olive green to a cream light green at chin, throat, chest, stomach, inner arms and legs.
Their spine ends in a rather short, but strong tail.
A line oh spikes is drawn from their forehead along the back, where it splits in two rows of spikes, and then down their tail.
Munat are to some degree rather temperature sensitive.
As most species Munat appear mainly in two different genders, male and female, though they are born and grow up in a genetic and biological state between both. This will not change until the age of 25 when – basing on living standards and behaviour – their body chemistry drastically changes to represent either way a male or a female. Every 20th Munat however stays a neutrum.
Munat males and females do not differ much in looks, but more in behavior. While males appear usually as passive and thoughtful, Munat females show an emotional and protective to aggressive behaviour, especially when about their family.

Culture and Behaviour
Munat have little of an own culture, but have adopted much of the behaviour of the Seena G’fifarad and adapted it to their own needs.
Munat depend very much an an active social interaction and a great family, to be protected by and/or to feel responsible for. Munat family clans base on a constant giving and taking of favours and social gestures, mostly described as a “primitive cuddle-communism”. They are mostly unfamiliar with the idea of a cultural hierarchy.
As much as they lack a complex own cultural background, Munat as well have barely an own religion. They follow the believe of their creators, a nature-bound religion with immaterial spirits of all kind populating their world.
Shamanes are seen as contact person between mortals and the sphere of the spirits.
Lacking an own language, Munat speak Seena, the language of the Seena G’fifarad.

Abilities
Munat have a biological affection towards using magic. Even the most untalented Munat would have at least an intuitive understanding for magic effects. Well trained and talented Munat can manipulate the mind of others via spells casting and know how to brew potions of the transforming branch of magic.
Munat can feel if magic was used, as an additional sense. It is basing on their “third eye”, a magic-sensitive organ embedded under the skin above their actual eyes.

9th Millennium
While the Munat of the 20th and 21st century were merely an amusing creation of the Seena G’fifarad and very much depending on them, they eventually replaced them in the 8880’s of a parallel reality.
Their creators got driven almost entirely extinct during the Eternal War and the Munat replaced them as leading reptilian species of the Galaxy. Themselves they see as bewares of their creators’ legacy.

Daniela’s Top 10 of…

…why I love England that much!

10. The Weather!
Despise evil rumours, most likely spread by the French: The English weather isn’t as bad. The summers are mildly warm and the winters are… mildly cold. It’s as if the weather in England has adopted stereotypical English behaviour: Relax olde chum, why hurry and do this unpredictable new-modern sudden weather changes if you can have a nice mildly rainy day with well predicted and punctual arriving beams of warm sunshine for the 5 o’clock tea.

9. The Royal Family!
Yes, I know, I’m a self declared follower of Rosa Luxemburg, a socialist, but still, I love those people: The Royal Family. If they wouldn’t be there, someone would have to invent them. Seriously, what would be the daily average life without interesting or amusing or shocking news from Buckingham Palace? Right! Long life the Queen! (Poor Charles, but as it looks like she’ll most likely still be Queen when he’ll die of old age.)

8. English – English!
This language is just nice! Sweet! Splendid! Swell! Spiffy! Despise what harm global culture has done to its reputation; this language is not shallow and easy as fast food. If you study it, you will find culture and creativity… also traditions.
Aside of that, it’s just amusing to tease Americans with the different way of spelling the Oxford dictionary tells you. Even better though, change from British English to “English” English and enjoy the blank faces in response, blimey!

7. Picturesque landscapes!
White chalk cliffs, meadows, farms, cottages, menhirs… Doesn’t that sound dreamingly pretty to you? Well, it does to me. Okay, admitting, most of England lacks great forest as you have them in Germany… but, hey, England has Stonehenge!
And not alone the “untouched” nature is beautiful, but as well the villages, cities and even a giant metropolis as London. Why yes, I never have been is a giant town as sophisticated, civilized and gentle as London. You want prove? I could walk through a crowded part of the city without getting pushed or run against even once.

6. Beat-music!
I just love the songs the British Invasion produced in the 1960s. Not only The Beatles, mind you, but Herman’s Hermits, The Animals, The Bee Gees, The Dave Clark Five, Petula Clark, Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders, The Fortunes, Freddie and the Dreamers, Gerry & the Pacemakers, Manfred Mann, The Yardbirds, The Who, The Troggs, and and and…
You enjoyed the Austin Powers movies? Go and listen to this music! Otherwise, do it as well!

5. Humour!
It is true, English humour is the best in the world! The English make fun about each and everyone – including themselves – and everything. I’ve rarely ever met such relaxed and often smiling and laughing people as them.
The dry English humour isn’t always easy to recognize as it by Continentals or Americans, but when you’re used to it, you don’t want to miss it.

4. Traditions!
It’s just comfortable in its own way… Grown up in post-war Germany (West), England has a touch of wonderland for me, with all those spiffy designed things as… phone booths, busses, coins, street signs… Compared with the rather functional place I grew up at, this has a touch of enchantment.
And those “exotic” things as mile, feet, inch, pound, stone… and toll the 1970s the pound/shilling/pence system. Also they have a Queen!

3. Delicious food!
Believe me, contrary to popular believe, English cuisine is awesome! Go to a pub and have a nice vegetable tart with chips with vinegar and salt and onion rings with vinegar and salt and for desert maybe a brownie? A chocolate tart? Cheesecake with vanilla ice cream?
Also there are pastries and classic sandwiches (What do you think where they were invented and named?) and black tea with crumpets!
Also, what is a better start in the day but with toast with marmite! …and baked beans!
I’d go more into detail with meat recipes now, but I have an allergy there.

2. Men with style!
You can’t deny it, English men are timeless stylish dressed! Just think of it… Men in vests! And… Sweater-vests! And fabulous stylish suits! You could assume each of them just got custom created by a perfect designer!
Aside of the clothes, there are also those fabulous looks! Nothing like a man with sideburns! Go through an average English town and count the number of men with sideburns, multiply by the number of me squealing up happily and you get… some number. Wooo!

1. VkmSpouge!
VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! VkmSpouge! (Ad infinitum…)

“Nie wieder Krieg” – a quote basing on a lithography of Käthe Kollwitz in 1924 – “never again war” was a sentence dominating German foreign policies after 1945, counting for both German states the FRG (West), as well the GDR (East).

And, despise both states being bound into the Cold War blocks of power, none of them got directly involved in any war, nor send army unites into other countries, except for non-military missions as support and reconstruction after disasters as earthquakes or floods.

Since 1990 however, when the GDR got integrated into the area of the FRG and following along the complete recognition of the FRG as sovereign state (2 + 4 treaty), there seem to have changed some parameters in German foreign politics.

Of course it can be argued whether or not UN missions can be counted as wars, though they were actions “out of area” – outside the NATO-area, which was originally meant to be the operating area of the (West-)German army. However with the end of the Cold War and worldwide starting conflicts about resources and flaming up ethnic conflicts the focus of the Bundeswehr (Federal Army) changed from a defence army to an intervention army.

While UN missions were still matter of discussions in how far they were to explain as peace-securing missions in the name of the United Nations – and therefore not breaking the UN-charta – it was however completely different in the case of the Federal Yugoslav Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija (Autonomna Pokrajina Kosovo i Metohija).

The NATO-attacks on cities and other locations in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia were not an UN-mission and to declare it a NATO defence case makes no sense since the FR of Yugoslavia did not attack any NATO-member, in fact didn’t attack any other country.

The civil war in Kosovo and Metohija was a complete intra-Yugoslav matter and by their own laws the NATO could not intervent. In fact it was eventually the argument to prevent a genocide from happening that was used to explain the attacks by the NATO.

Even though their actually were civil war like unrest and ethnic conflicts happening in the autonomous province and both, Kosovo Albanians and Kosovo Serbs committed crimes and attacks on each other, it makes at least suspicious that the official NATO press announcements are very disputable, numbers of victims reached unbelievable heights and often claims could not fully be proven.

Before I’ll go further into detail here, I’ll move over to an overview of Bundeswehr missions since 1990:

1991: German marine unites patrol in the Persian Gulf, after the UN lead mission in Iraq and Kuwait, to control the UN declared sanctions against Iraq. German air-force bomber are temporarily stationed in Turkey during the UN mission.

1992: German army units stationed in Kampuchea. German marine patrols in the Adrian Sea to control the UN declared sanctions against Yugoslavia. An airfore base is constructed in Kenya. NATO-lead control-flights above Bosnia-Herzegovina.

1993: German army units in Somalia during an UN lead mission. German border police officers in Morocco.

1994: German army units in Georgia during an UN lead mission. German air-force joins an air-bridge towards Rwanda. The German Federal Court declares out of area missions as confirm with the Federal laws.

1995: German army units stationed in Croatia. German air-force flights over Bosnia-Herzegovina.

1996: German army units in Bosnia-Herzegovina during an UN lead mission.

1997: German army mission in the Albanian civil-war to secure German citizens.

1999: NATO-lead air-born attacks on the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia – as reaction to the civil war in Kosovo-Metohija/Serbia. Often considered as the first “war” after 1945 with Germany joining in. Afterwards German troops are stationed in Kosovo-Metohija to fulfil police work in the area round Prizren. German army units in Indonesia and Timor-Leste during an UN-lead mission. German army units stationed in Sierra Leone and as well in Mozambique during an UN-lead missions.

2001: German army units stationed in Macedonia during a NATO-lead mission. German marine unites are send to Djibouti and first German soldiers arrive in Afghanistan within UN-lead missions.

2002: Greater German army unites in Afghanistan during an UN-lead mission. German marine unites arrive in Djibouti and the Gulf of Aden. German army units stationed in Kuwait. Within the UN-lead mission in Afghanistan German army units are stationed in Uzbekistan and start to an construct air-force base. German air-born marine units stationed in Kenya.

2003: German-French plans for an UN-lead intervention in Iraq get public. German army units stationed in Uganda. German marine patrolling along the Somali and Spain/Moroccans coats during an UN-lead mission.

2004: German army officers are send to Ethiopia. German army units stationed in the UAE.

2005: German army support in Indonesia after the tsunami.

2006: During an EU-lead mission are German army units stationed in Congo (Democratic Republic).

This list might be a bit incomplete, I please to excuse this.

Currently the Bundeswehr is still stationed “out of area” in: Kosovo-Metohija, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Georgia, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Sudan, Djibouti, Lebanon and around the “Horn Of Africa” (Indian Ocean).

In conclusion, The Bundeswehr is anything but a defensive army anymore, but an intervention troop. Whether one does see it as peace-securing missions or aggressive militarism – one thing is sure: The FRG, Germany, is involved in several conflicts and wars and the Bundeswehr isn’t hide away from potential military actions anymore as during the Cold War.
